A Stronger Community Starts Here!
Highland County businesses employ our neighbors, support our families, contribute to our social service agencies, and pay taxes that provide funding for our schools, emergency services and roads. As consumers, we don’t give much thought to value of our personal purchasing power. But, the fact is that where we choose to shop really does strengthen or weaken our community. Truth told… it matters a great deal! That’s why the Chamber is re-launching the “Buy and Do Business Locally” campaign.
Made in Highland County, Ohio! Purchased in Highland County, Ohio! Services provided in Highland County, Ohio! And the Highland County Chamber of Commerce wants the message to ‘stick’… literally.
All local businesses – chamber members and even non-chamber members – are encouraged to join this initiative and help educate consumers about the importance of doing business locally. You can participate for little to no investment. Following is a list of several ways that you can get involved:
- Distribute informational material in your business. Download and print informational fliers from the Chamber Web site or order professionally printed glossy pieces.
- Label your products or services as a “reminder” to customers that their local purchase matters. Download and print your own for free or purchase professionally printed full-color labels. Labels are available in three different designs so that you can choose the one that most appropriately works your business.
- Demonstrate the investment you make in the community through informational displays. These displays will contain general information about why it is important for consumers to shop locally, but will also serve as a place for your business to demonstrate your personal re-investment into the local community. Display all of those thank you notes, ribbons and banners you’ve received over the years every time you donate your time or resources to benefit a local non-profit, school, child or community organization. Again, create your own, or order a display.
- Contribute. The Chamber is looking for testimonials that will also add credibility to this program. If you have a compelling story to tell about how your business has improved the community or about another local business that has gone above and beyond, we’d love to hear about it. Email submissions to hccoc@cinci.rr.com.
Below are the details of the 2010 SHOP LOCAL campaign and how you can show your support:

One of the most popular programs the Chamber supports is the SHOP LOCAL promotion. During the months of November and December, look for an increased presence of our SHOP LOCAL message using many forms of media - billboards, newspaper, radio, sign boards, website - any way to spread the important SHOP LOCAL word. A special thanks to our media partners: A to Z Advertising, The Times Gazette, Highland County Press, Buckeye Country 105.5, WVNU 97.5 FM, Highland Lanes, Peak Outdoor Advertising and to all of you who are spreading the word with your display of the kiosks, window clings and labels.
If you want to participate, here are the ordering details for the kiosks and labels. If you have questions or need more information just call the Chamber - 393-1111 - and we’ll be happy to help.
Point of Purchase Displays - These units are available for purchase ($85 each) by any business to demonstrate the good works, generosity and support our local business community gives back to area organizations in the form of donations and other means of support. The idea is to post those many letters of thanks, awards and other evidence of giving so that customers can see how the dollars they spend locally are given back to our community. Additionally, we have developed this piece to demonstrate the ways that local businesses support the community in general, providing statistics and information to reinforce the SHOP LOCAL message. These pieces are designed to educate consumers in the “real” meaning of shopping / doing business locally. The tri fold piece is 6’x15”, taking little floor space while sending a strong message. Below is a photo of each side of the point of purchase kiosk, designed to show your customers how your business supports our community.

Labels - These labels are another sign of support for the program and are meant to remind shoppers that buying locally matters to all of us. The labels, shown here, will be available for purchase ($40 per 1000) through the Chamber and all businesses are encouraged to place them on products, invoices/receipts to remind consumers that their local purchase matters. Downloads of this artwork are available on the Chamber website for use on marketing and billing materials to further drive this message. If you want to explore “personalized” or custom options, feel free to use the artwork on the Chamber website and explore your own version of the message that might work best for your business. The Chamber has developed this artwork to promote and reinforce the SHOP LOCAL message, reminding consumers what your business does to support the local economy.
